Facilities

One of our loading bays

Interfrigo Ltd is the largest independent cold store operator in Northern Ireland. It provides its customers with one of the most flexible cold storage facilities in the UK and Ireland, and can accommodate stock from the modest to the largest of producers. Its 136,000 sq ft state-of-the-art cold store has storage capacity for 20,000 pallets. Interfrigo’s premises are approved by the USDA (United States Department of Agriculture), the European Commission and HM Customs and Excise.

Loading Docks

Docking bays from outside

Interfrigo has twelve truck loading docks located throughout the facility. Each individual electric loading dock is air-tight to enable the temperature (which is set at +1°C) to remain constant.

Intake Capacity

Lorries

Each day, Interfrigo can handle around 1,000 pallets, delivered by up to 40 lorries. With the cold store receiving up to 250 deliveries a week, Interfrigo’s operation is continuous, therefore reliability is critical.

Refrigeration

Intake Bay

The refrigeration plants are the most efficient available, running on energy saving lines with continuous computer monitoring. This temperature-controlled loading bay is 16,000 square feet. Refrigerated docks and an energetic team of cold storage professionals ensure a quick turnaround, maximising efficiency and minimising damage and waste.

Thermal Barriers

Thermal barriers

The entrance into the cold room is temperature-controlled and has a thermal barrier to prevent cold air loss or warm air gain. There is a double set of doors which have warm air in between them, to prevent any ice or snow forming near the entrance. When a fork-lift approaches the door, a sensor above it detects the fork-lift’s movement and triggers the door to open. The door closes again after a few seconds, ensuring that no cold air escapes or warm air goes in.

Blast Freeze

Blast freeze

Interfrigo's blast freezer has five bays. The product is blast frozen at –40ºC. The temperature in each of Interfrigo's cold store chambers are computer controlled to prevent temperature fluctuations. Interfrigo can offer customers a secure temperature controlled environment for short and long term storage of their frozen goods. Product can also be brought from +7°C to –12°C within 36 hours.

Food Sector

Chilled stock

We specialise in chilling and freezing food for manufacturing and retail customers in the food sector, working in partnership with them to optimise inventories and ensure goods are available precisely when required.

Warehouse Management System

"The ethos which drives our company is that of working continually to meet the needs of our customers, and their customers, better than anyone else", says Ross Reed, Interfrigo’s Managing Director.

How the Interfrigo system works

With the cold store receiving up to 250 deliveries a week, our operation is continuous, therefore reliability is critical. At the heart of our efficient and productive operations is a computerised cold store management system supplied by Emydex Technology. It ensures maximum efficiency and accuracy.

Goods Inwards

We require if possible 24 hours advance notice of incoming goods, so that we can produce a receipt advice. When the goods arrive, the load is checked against the receipt advice, any differences marked and a “putaway” sheet is produced, which gives store locations. This data is automatically transferred by the computer to the equipment in the fork-lift truck via radio-frequency and the appropriate racks are opened automatically as each pallet is put away, thus ensuring optimum speed, which is essential with frozen and chilled goods.

Goods Outwards

We require if possible 24 hours notice. A picking sheet is prepared according to customer’s requirements and again the data is transferred to the radio equipment in the fork-lift truck which will open the appropriate racks to enable quick loading. Stock control and rotation is totally computerized. The computer also operates a batch system, to allow picking of specific products, i.e. for samples and to allow our customer to recall product in case of problems.

Blast Preparation

Pallet spacing

The pallet is placed on a platform, which tilts at 45 degrees and allows the boxes to be separated. The dividers that are placed between the boxes, allow the cold air to circulate while blast freezing.
